Illinois state Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) recently blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and 14th District Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) in a new video condemning their involvement in the impeachment proceedings of President Donald Trump.

“Washington politicians Nancy Pelosi and Lauren Underwood are trying to overturn the 2016 election,” Oberweis, who is challenging Underwood in November, said in a video posted to YouTube. “Impeaching President Trump was a complete waste of time and taxpayer dollars. Congresswoman Underwood, you should be working to protect jobs, cover pre-existing conditions, lower drug prices and fix our roads and bridges, not overturn an election.”

Oberweis vows to “put people before politics” if elected as the face of a district Trump handily won in 2016. Underwood has also recently come under fire for speaking out against last week's drone attack ordered by Trump that killed Iranian commander Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani. According to U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, Soleimani was known to be “actively developing plans to attack U.S. troops and diplomats” at the time of the strike.

Now in his seventh year in Springfield, Oberweis is part of a crowded Republican primary field that also includes state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) and former Kendall County Republican Party chairman James Marter (R-Oswego). Oberweis has based his campaign on a platform of conservative values and growing the economy, given his extensive background in business.

The senator recently bagged the endorsement of the Lake County Republican Federation, where committee member Keith Gray deemed him “the most qualified person to represent the district.” In September, Oberweis also earned the endorsement of longtime state Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee), who described him as someone who will “stand up for taxpayers” and against “the open-border policies being pushed by team Nancy Pelosi/Lauren Underwood that are putting our nation at risk.”
