The price of local government in 2017: City of Joliet

The City of Joliet budget was $325.16 million for its 2017 fiscal year.

That's a decrease of five percent from 2016, when the city spent $342.34 million.

Joliet has a population of 148,462.

Since 2001, the City of Joliet budget has grown by 13.1 percent, from $287.40 million. The city population has grown 39.8 percent over the same period, from 106,221.

Salaries accounted for 27.6 percent of city spending in 2017. Joliet property taxpayers paid $89.78 million for 827 full-time employees and 67 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 794 full-time employees and 112 part-time employees, and spent $72.86 million.
