Mokena's Mary Gorski has written her way to a $1,000 academic scholarship, according to a recent press release from the Frankfort Township Republican Organization (FTRO).

The Lincoln-Way East High School senior won an FTRO-sponsored essay contest for her “How Could You Be a Feminist and a Republican?”

The scholarship money will be paid to Notre Dame University, where Gorski will study finance and international business with a minor in German or history, the FTRO said.

Gorski, the youngest of John and Jean Gorski's five children, was active in Madrigal choir, Blue Review jazz choir, lacrosse, Key Club, the Scholastic Bowl, and youth groups at both St. Anthony’s and St. Mary’s churches. She also performed vocal solos at all lacrosse home games, as well as at church.

Her father is president, founder and engineer of John Martin Structural Engineering; her mother works with him.

Gorski’s award-winning essay can be viewed at www.frankfortrepublicans.org by clicking on scholarship.
