Mokena Board of Trustees discusses 2018 budget

The village of Mokena Board of Trustees met Feb. 13th to discuss the 2018 budget.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Fleischer called the Board of Trustees Work Session to order at 8:25 p.m.

ROLL CALL

The following Trustees were present:

Joe Siwinski

Debbie Engler

George Metanias

Jim Richmond

John Mazzorana

Joseph Budzyn

Also present were: Village Clerk Patricia Patt; Village Administrator John Tomasoski;

Finance Director Barb Damron; Public Works Director Lou Tiberi;Village Engineer Paul

Pearson; Assistant Village Administrator Kirk Zoellner; Community/Economic

Development Director Alan Zordan; Assistant Public Works Director Mark Detloff;

Police Chief Steve Vaccaro and Staff Engineer Dan Peloquin.

Curtain Call Discussion

Community/Economic Development Director Alan Zordan presented the background on Curtain

Call Theater.

Trustee Siwinski stepped out of the room.

Discussion:

The consensus of the Board was to grant the Amusement Tax exemption and directed

staff to work with the Village Attorney to prepare the necessary Resolution.

Trustee Siwinski returned to the Board room.

FY 18 Budget

Village Administrator John Tomasoski and Village Staff presented FY 18 budget items.

Discussion:

Trustee Mazzorana asked how long Ash trees will need to be treated. Trustee Budzyn

asked why the developer is not responsible for the maintenance around the pond in the

Bridges of Mokena Subdivision. Village Engineer, Paul Pearson, responded with the

requirements for the pond at the time it was built.

Trustee Richmond asked if Village staff went and physically viewed the roads where the

alternatives discussed were used to extend the life of the roads. Mr. Pearson indicated that

Village staff did. Trustee Richmond also asked if additional cracksealing after the first

application on a road could extend its useful life. Both Village Engineers, Paul Pearson

and Dan Peloquin, described the Village’s current cracksealing program and why they did

not feel a second application would be beneficial.

There being no further matters for the board to consider, Mayor Fleischer adjourned the

work session at 9:52 PM.
