Rockdale homeowners paid property taxes equal to 2% of their home values in the fourth quarter of 2025—more than 2.3 times the national average, according to BlockShopper.com.

Five home sales in Rockdale during the period set the median sales price at $170,000. Based on those transactions, the city’s median property tax bill in 2025 was $3,431, matching 2% of the typical home’s assessed value.

The U.S. average effective property tax rate stood at 0.888% in 2024.

Wilton, Park Forest, and University Park reported the highest property tax rates among Will County municipalities.

This analysis uses estimated inflation factors for 2025 and 2022 county tax records to calculate effective property tax rates. Actual rates in some cases may differ slightly.

According to Redfin, the U.S. median home price climbed to about $447,000 in June 2025, an increase of 1.13% from the prior year. Their data also highlight a notable imbalance in the market, with 36% more sellers than buyers (a difference of 508,715 homes); Redfin defines a balanced housing market as having seller and buyer numbers within 10% of each other.
