Will County officials announced on Mar. 13 that power has been restored to county buildings following an outage that affected the County Office Building and several other locations in and around downtown Joliet. The outage, which occurred earlier in the day, prompted staff to work with ComEd to determine when service would return.

The restoration of power is important for residents who rely on county services. Officials advised the public to call ahead before visiting any offices as operations may have been disrupted during the outage. They also noted that Joliet remains under a high wind warning for the remainder of the afternoon and said updates will be provided if additional issues arise.

During this period, Will County continues to serve a large student population. The average student-to-teacher ratio was 14-to-1 in the 2022-23 school year, with 102,683 students enrolled and 7,116 full-time faculty members across local schools, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Teacher absenteeism was recorded at 38.6% for Will County schools during that same year, higher than the state average of 35.6%, as reported by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Among Will County’s 169 schools, Lockport Township High School East had the highest enrollment of white students with a total of 2,626 students in the last academic year, while Bolingbrook High School had the highest enrollment of multiracial students at 154 students. Joliet Central High School recorded the highest number of Hispanic students with an enrollment of 2,358, and Crete-Monee High School had the largest Black student enrollment at 931 students—all figures are from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Officials said they will continue monitoring conditions throughout Joliet due to ongoing weather concerns and will provide further updates if necessary.
