During the fourth quarter of 2025, Plainfield homeowners paid property taxes equal to 2.1% of their home values—over 2.4 times above the national average, BlockShopper.com reported.

Data from the sale of 142 properties show Plainfield’s median sales price reached $421,500 for the quarter. The 2025 median property tax bill for the city was $8,855, which equates to 2.1% of the median home value for properties that were taxed.

The average US effective property tax rate in 2024 was 0.888%.

Within Will County, the highest effective rates in the period were seen in Wilton, Park Forest, and University Park.
