The Park Forest Historical Society will honor seven individuals at its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 29 at Freedom Hall, according to a March 25 announcement. The event is free and open to the public.
This year’s inductees are Alan Franklin, Michele Johnson, Timothy “Tim” Jones, Thomas Mick, Tracy Mick, Tushar H. Pandya, and Jennifer Whitson. Jane Nicoll of the Historical Society said the ceremony is both meaningful and celebratory. “It’s always a warm, fuzzy event,” Nicoll said. “You get to hear the nominations read, and then the inductees come up and share a few words. It’s really about recognizing people who’ve done wonderful things for the community.”
Among those honored this year is Jones, a police officer who died in December after living with injuries from his service. His recognition was described as especially significant by Nicoll: “He deserved to be recognized,” she said. “We wish we had done it sooner, but it’s important that he is honored.”
The Park Forest Hall of Fame began in 1989 with Philip Klutznick as its first member—a central figure in developing the village—and became an annual tradition in 1994 after years of planning. Each fall, residents are invited to nominate candidates whose contributions have impacted Park Forest; selections are made by committee.
Nicoll said nearly 200 people have been inducted so far and that efforts are underway to make plaques more visible: “It’s time for people to learn about it,” she said.
According to the official website, Village of Park Forest promotes community health through dedicated commissions and programs while also receiving recognition for sustainability efforts in town planning practices. The village operates under a council-manager government structure with a mayor and six trustees as its governing body according to official information. The municipality supports economic growth through collaboration and innovation while providing educational opportunities like its Civic Leadership Academy according to village sources.
The broader impact of these recognitions highlights ongoing efforts by Park Forest leaders toward community engagement and sustainability initiatives as reported by official sources.
