The Mokena School District 159 Board of Education approved the 2026-2027 school year calendar on Mar. 19, according to an announcement from the district. The new calendar is available for public viewing on the district website.
The release of the calendar provides families and staff with important information for planning the upcoming academic year. The district serves students in Will County at Mokena Elementary School, Mokena Intermediate School, and Mokena Junior High School, as reported by the Illinois Report Card.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education, Mokena School District 159 employs 97 teachers who earn an average salary of $61,802 before pension contributions. Of these teachers, 85.2 percent are women and 14.8 percent are men, and none had more than ten absences in a school year.
Demographic data shows that the student population is composed of approximately 85 percent White students, with Black students making up 2.7 percent, Hispanic students at 7.7 percent, and Asian students at 2.1 percent, according to the Illinois Report Card. In terms of spending, the district allocated $23,197 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure of $35,515,357.
Chronic truancy rates in Mokena School District 159 were three percent during the 2020 school year with forty-six students classified as chronically truant—defined as missing five percent or more of mandated school days without valid excuse—compared to a statewide average of 9.6 percent; Gen. George Patton School District 133 had the highest rate at seventy percent according to data from the Illinois State Board of Education.
