Firefighter and paramedic Jonas Campbell has been named the Park Forest Fire Department’s 2025 Firefighter of the Year, according to a Mar. 12 announcement. The award recognizes a department member who demonstrates high standards in fire service.
The annual honor highlights the importance of professionalism and dedication among local firefighters. Recognizing individuals like Campbell aims to set an example for others in the department and reinforce community trust in emergency services.
Fire Chief Mark Cotrano presented the award on Saturday, commending Campbell’s positive attitude, dependability, and commitment to both his colleagues and residents. “Jonas always brings an exceptional, positive attitude to the fire station,” Cotrano said. He added that Campbell is known for his willingness to take on any task and for building camaraderie through humor during stressful times.
Campbell joined the department in 2023 and quickly became involved beyond emergency response duties. He serves as a dependable instructor in the department’s CPR training program, with Cotrano noting that his calm teaching style helps students feel confident and prepared. “His dedication to this program strengthens public safety and reflects his service commitment,” Cotrano said.
In addition to mentoring new firefighters and students, Campbell is recognized for his strong family ties. This year, he married his wife Brittany, and they welcomed their first child, Candace. Cotrano said Campbell’s character sets a strong example: “Jonas Campbell exemplifies the best of the Park Forest Fire Department.
