Fairmont School has released its February newsletter, providing families with updates, important dates, and upcoming events for the month. The school encouraged parents and guardians to review the newsletter to stay informed about activities within the district.

“Take a moment to read through and stay connected with all the wonderful things happening at Fairmont,” stated Fairmont School in the newsletter. “Thank you for staying connected and your continued support.”

Fairmont School is part of Fairmont School District 89, which serves Will County. The district includes students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade and enrolled 322 students during the 2019-2020 school year. More information on the district can be found at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/.

The student body of Fairmont School District 89 is diverse, with approximately 12.7 percent White, 38.5 percent Black, 46 percent Hispanic, and 0.3 percent Asian students according to data from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Further demographic details are available at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/.

Teacher statistics show that there are a total of 30 teachers in the district earning an average salary of $47,800 before pension contributions; about 80 percent are women and nearly 20 percent are men. Notably, none of these teachers recorded more than ten absences in a single school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Financially, Fairmont School District 89 spent $21,521 per student in the year 2020 for a total expenditure of $6,929,762 as reported by ISBE (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

However, attendance remains an area of concern: In the same year, ISBE data showed that there were 90 “chronically truant” students in the district—defined as missing five percent or more of mandated school days without valid excuse—resulting in a chronic truancy rate of 28.1 percent compared to a statewide average of just under ten percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
