Fairmont School District 89 has released its March School Newsletter, providing families with updates, important dates, and upcoming events for the month. The administration encouraged families to read the newsletter to stay informed about developments within the district.

“We’re so grateful for your continued involvement and support,” said the Fairmont Administration in a statement.

Fairmont School District 89 is located in Will County and includes Fairmont School as part of its jurisdiction. According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, the district enrolled 322 students during the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The student population is diverse, consisting of approximately 12.7 percent White, 38.5 percent Black, 46 percent Hispanic, and 0.3 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The district employs a total of 30 teachers who earn an average salary of $47,800 before pension contributions; about 80.3 percent are women while 19.7 percent are men (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Notably, there were no teachers with more than ten absences in a single school year.

Financially, Fairmont School District 89 spent $21,521 per student in 2020, amounting to a total expenditure of $6,929,762 (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Chronic truancy remains an issue within the district: In the 2020 school year, there were 90 students classified as “chronically truant,” representing a rate of 28.1 percent—higher than the statewide average of 9.6 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The designation applies to students who miss at least five percent of mandated school days without valid excuse.

The administration expressed appreciation for ongoing family engagement as it continues efforts to keep parents informed through regular communications like the monthly newsletter.
