Volunteers provided free food to more than 150 families at Heritage Park last month, working in partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, Will County, the Crete Library, the Village of Crete, and the Crete Park District.

The event operated as a drive-through beginning at 4 p.m., distributing milk, eggs, produce, meat, and other items. Vehicles lined up along Sangamon Street for the distribution. The Crete Emergency Management Agency managed traffic flow while the Crete Police Department assisted when congestion reached Exchange Street.

Organizers reported that supplies began to run low within half an hour due to high demand.

“It’s been a great success. We’ve been able to serve over 150 families,” said David Sieffert, Executive Director of the Crete Library. “We’re really happy to see people come out and have community support to help our neighbors.”

There are currently no additional food distribution events scheduled in Crete. Those seeking information about future events can visit solvehungertoday.org for updates.
