Committee members discussed additional promotion of the workshops, highlighted a Superintendent Roundtable event, noted the enthusiasm of participants, and suggested potential roundtables with Township superintendents and County Board members. Ms. Bernhard also described Mentimeter engagement activities used at past workshops and noted that a workshop summary would be provided to the consultant.
Community Workshop #2 TMP-9337
Ms. Bernhard explained the Community Workshop #2 would take place on Thursday, February 26th at 5:00 p.m. at the Joliet Public Library Ottawa Street Branch in the Daniel Burnham room. Ms. Bernhard reported that staff were coordinating with consultants on workshop planning, marketing, and online engagement. Ms. Bernhard explained the workshop’s purposes were to introduce subareas, gather feedback on the subareas to refine design concepts, and build on the information gathered from the topic area workshops to create draft recommendations.
Subarea Plans TMP-9339
Committee members reviewed four subareas identified for study: the Louis Joliet Mall area, Ridge Road corridor, legacy east side industrial area, and the Chicago Street and McDonough Street corridors. Members provided feedback on each subarea. Discussion topics included mall occupancy and potential housing development, EV parking and production, population and commercial needs along Ridge Road, subarea site selection, the U.S. Steel location, and the potential cost of adding a fifth subarea. Ms. Bernhard noted that concepts and strategies developed for the identified subareas could be replicated in other areas of the City.
