Amazon's distribution center in Joliet will remain open despite having an employee who tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Patch reported the distribution center had no plans to close the facility at this time. The worker who tested positive was placed in quarantine after receiving medical attention.

"We are supporting the individual who is recovering," Amazon spokesman Timothy Carter wrote in an email to the news agency. "We are following guidelines from local officials and are taking extreme measures to ensure the safety of employees at the site."

As of May 9, Illinois reported 76,085 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 3,349 deaths. Will County has 3,636 confirmed cases and Kendall County has 388 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Carter told the news agency that anyone in contact with the employee was told to stay home with pay for a 14-day period of self-quarantine.

Amazon is making sure employees who test positive for COVID-19 receive paid leave while they are not able to work. The company has also enacted several social distancing policies by staggering shift start and end times, not having meetings during shifts and spreading out people, among other things, the news agency reported.
