The Will County Republicans know how to attract interest during an Illinois summer.

"Visit the Will County Republican Central Committee Booth at the Will County Fair next to the air conditioned restaurant, 710 S West St, Peotone," the group suggested in a recent press release.

Of course, the group is hoping visitors will be interested in more than just cooling off during the event, which is scheduled for Aug. 23 to 27.  The Will County GOP booth will feature a drawing at the end of the fair for $25 gas cards and the group is accepting donations from candidates and elected officials to pay for those cards. Donors will have their names posted at the group’s booth, and winners of the drawing will get the cards, the donors’ names and contact information.

The fair offers free parking. Admission is free for kids under 10 and $4 for everyone else.

The central committee is also calling for volunteers to help staff the group’s booth on any of the fair days between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Volunteers can sign up for just a few hours or more by emailing natmurawski@gmail.com.

In addition to the Will County Fair, the central committee also reminded residents of the Wheatland Township Republican Organization Golf Outing, which will take place on Aug. 25. The event will feature 560AM radio host Dan Proft as speaker.

Proft is a principal of Local Government Information Services, which owns this publication.

Golf and dinner will cost $125, while dinner only will be $50..

The group also noted Precinct Committeman Day on Sept. 9 and a fundraiser for the Illinois State Rifle Association on Sep. 14.
