The price of local government: Village of Plainfield

The village of Plainfield budget was $50.64 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $3,271.53 per household.

That's an increase of 13.4 percent from 2014 when the village spent $44.66 million, or $2,884.88 per household.

Plainfield has 15,480 households and a population of 42,138.

Since 2001, the village of Plainfield budget has fallen by 14.5 percent, from $59.24 million. The village population has grown 223.2 percent over the same period, from 13,038.

Salaries accounted for 22.4 percent of village spending in 2015. Plainfield property taxpayers paid $11.32 million for 123 full-time employees and 21 part-time employees.
