Will County Associate Judge Ben Braun has filed his State Board of Elections paperwork to run as a Republican candidate for Will County Circuit Judge in the 12th Judicial Circuit.

In addition to filing his statement of candidacy, Braun filed $22,500 worth of A-1 contributions (those of $1,000 or more), plus a personal $11,700 loan from Braun to his campaign.

Braun was unavailable for comment for this story, but sources close to him told the Will County Gazette that an official campaign announcement will be coming soon.

He would be the first candidate to announce for the countywide judicial seat, which opened up when longtime Will County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Rozek announced his retirement earlier this year.

Braun has served as an associate judge for the past 11 years, and has practiced law in Will County for almost two decades.
