Julie Berkowicz was unable to win a seat on the Naperville City Council in the consolidated general election on Tuesday, coming in fifth and narrowly missing out on a seat.
She took to social media to thank Naperville voters for their support for her candidacy.
"I would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone that supported me in this election," she said on her Facebook page. "I cannot express how much I appreciate the gestures and actions of so many. We acted honorably and respectfully and never let our beliefs waiver!"
Berkowicz garnered 5,089 votes, or 12.2 percent of all votes cast. Incumbents Judith Brodhead, Kevin Michael Coyne and John Krummen will remain on the council, joined by newcomer Benny White.
"The last six months, I have dedicated myself to making a positive change in Naperville," Berkowicz said on her Facebook page. "We will see what direction this new council will lead our community towards with their actions and their votes. It was an honor to work for the 'little guy,' and I am proud to say that I am one of them and will CONTINUE to work for the residents in this community who deserve a voice!"
