Joliet Public Safety Committee purchase portable radios

The city of Joliet Public Safety Committee met Jan. 17 to purchase portable radios.

DRAFT MINUTES SUBJECT TO COMMITTEE APPROVAL

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING of the City of Joliet, Illinois was held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 6:15 P.M. in the Executive Conference Room, Joliet Municipal Building, 150 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, Illinois.

1. ROLL CALL

PRESENT: Chairman Councilman John E. Gerl, Councilwoman Brooke

Hernandez-Brewer, Councilman Larry E. Hug.

ABSENT: None.

ALSO PRESENT: Fire Chief Joe Formhals and Police Chief Brian Benton

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes 12.6.2016 Safety Committee Meeting

Motion to approve the minutes of the December 6, 2016 Public Safety Committee Meeting was made by Councilwoman Brooke Hernandez-Brewer.

Motion seconded by Councilman Larry E. Hug. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Chairman Councilman John E. Gerl, Councilwoman Brooke Hernandez-

Brewer, Councilman Larry E. Hug. NAYS: None.

3. AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE LEVEL IV BALLISTIC VESTS TO FULL

COUNCIL

CM - Authorization to Purchase Level IV Ballistic Vests

Police Chief Brian Benton explained these vests are for higher level of protection from rifle fire. The money to be used for this purchase is from the Federal Asset Forfeiture money in the amount of $44,550. It will be used to purchase 165 level 4 vests to outfit all officers that requested one.

4. APPROVE THE 2017 JOLIET POLICE DEPARTMENT AND JOLIET PSAP's 9-1-1

SURCHARGE TO FULL COUNCIL

CM-2017 Police Department and Joliet PSAP's 9-1-1

Chief Benton explained this is the police allocation of an annual grant received from Will County 911 ATSB Fund; $91,242 to be used for the wireless infrastructure and the $88,136.47 will be used to improve enhancements in the Dispatch Center.

Motion to recommend APPROVAL OF THE 2017 JOLIET POLICE DEPARTMENT AND JOLIET PSAP's 9-1-1 SURCHARGE TO FULL COUNCIL was made by Councilwoman Brooke Hernandez-Brewer.

5. APPROVE THE 2017 INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE WILL COUNTY 9-1-1 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SYSTEM BOARD, ETSB IN ORDER TO RECEIVE GRANT TO FULL COUNCIL

Fire Chief Joe Formhals explained this was the annual grant received from Will County 911 Fund in the amount of $91,242 request to spend funds on portable radios.

Digital Portable Radios and Misc. Radio Equipment TO FULL COUNCIL

CM - MOTOROLA APPX7000xe PORTABLE RADIOS

Chief Formhals requests approval to use $90,814.40 to purchase the additional 14 portable radios.

Motion to recommend AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE FOURTEEN (14) MOTOROLA AAPX7000XE Digital Portable Radios and Misc. Radio Equipment TO FULL COUNCIL was made by Councilwoman Brooke Hernandez-Brewer.
