Kevin Coyne can’t remember the last time he started a job and didn’t see it through until the end.

The Naperville city councilman is up for re-election in April, and the way he sees it, all the heavy lifting he did over his first two years in office in helping the city get itself back on solid footing is only just beginning.

It’s why the veteran business attorney works and campaigns as hard as he does. In his mind, Naperville is only starting to scratch the surface of what it can be.

“I am proud of all the work we’ve been able to get done, but the job is far from finished,” Coyne, a partner in the Lisle law firm of Momkus, McCluskey & Roberts LLC, told the Will County Gazette. “We’ve made the real estate tax levy lower, adopted strict financial principals going forward and moved to consolidate big government so there is far less duplication, all while maintaining the city’s AAA bond rating.”

Chief on Coyne’s to-do list is lowering taxes pretty much across the board. He said that taxes have already been lowered for many city residents.

Come the Feb. 28 Republican primary, Coyne will be one of eight candidates vying for four seats. Other incumbents on the ballot are Judy Brodhead, Kevin Gallaher and John Krummen. Newcomers include Julie Berkowicz, Michael Isaac, Mike Strick and Benny White.

“I feel good about my chances, many of the issues I’ve been front and center on have been well-received and immensely popular concepts among voters” Coyne said.

Before winning his council seat, Coyne served on the local Fair Housing Advisory Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission.

He prides himself on being a fiscal conservative and thinks his combination of business and civic experience make him a dynamic fit for what he insists Naperville now needs most.

“I’m committed to spending my next term in office working hard to make sure Naperville remains one of the best places in the country to settle down and raise a family,” Coyne said.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Coyne has spent the last 15 years in Naperville practicing law and has also served on such not-for-profit boards as the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, Naperville Jaycees, Naperville Last Fling and the Exchange Club.

Coyne first ran for the City Council in 2013, just missing out on earning a seat by placing fifth among 11 candidates.

Patch.com reports his campaign will be managed by local businessman Bruce Hanson, a former chairman of the city’s Financial Advisory Board.
